Today plastics are synthesized mainly from petroleum and natural gas. Products obtained by refining oil have a wide variety of applications. The diagram shows the uses to which oil is used:

The chemical / petrochemical area are distributed in three areas:

•Processing plants: structures that treat, blend and modify products

•Storage areas:

- areas for gases
- tanks for liquids.

•Product Driving Racks : are bundles of pipes that run the facilities and also link the two sites

What are the torches?

When we see by far the silhouette of the Tarragona petrochemical sites, there are facilities that stand above the other, torches.

A torch is that kind of fire that sometimes is a spectacular flare on the end. You could say that the torch is to the chemical plant as the leads in our country. We know that when an overload on the grid, there is a bare wire or an appliance plugged in wrong, the gap jumps and short supply. We know this is a security system, the outage occurs prevents a greater evil.

So, in chemical plants when for some reason there is a product that does not go where it should go, it stops the process and the gas and / or products "misguided" go to the torch and it burn to avoid toxic leaks.
